This is a limited edition collaboration with woodwork artist Keiichi Murakami, who works in Kanagawa. His wood lids treat knots, cracks, fissures, and insect bites as natural details with unique material characteristics. They are made of Chestnut wood and sometimes lacquered black for added effect.
The containers are crafted by the husband and wife duo Daisaku Hashimura and Michi Nomi from handblown glass. They are accentuated with touches of gold and silver leaf on the rim and the body, creating the illusion of shadows. The ripple effect is a signature of Daisaku, while Michi specializes in frosting and adding mesmerizing color tones. Traditionally, Chaire is used to temporarily store sifted matcha to be scooped into bowls for whisking but can be used to store precious trinkets or admired on display.
