A top ten finishing matcha, 7th out of 111 entries from seven prefectures at the 77th National Competition held in Yame, Fukuoka on 22-25 Aug 2023 by Taiga Aoyama. Taiga Aoyama consistently ranked in the top ten and won the grand prize less than five years ago.
Only 180 cans can be made from the awarded production to be released in small, freshly ground batches every few months. Competition matcha represents the pinnacle of production by perfectly cultivating a demanding varietal that requires constant attention, a high level of experience, and a little bit of luck and cooperation from nature to have perfect weather conditions. The pungent taste and aroma are clear and defined, resonating long after the last sip, and the fluorescent color of the brew is striking.

Start by submerging all the matcha in the water, then gently whisk the liquid until it thickens and becomes consistent. Move quickly but use short strokes and enjoy while still warm.
